Salt Lake City (SLC) is easy to navigate if you think of a grid system. The center of the grid is the corner of South Temple and Main Street (or the southeast corner of Temple Square). Each city block equals 1/8 mile and represents 100 in the building numbering system. As you walk north from the Hilton, you will pass 300 South, 200 South, and eventually arrive at South Temple. To the east one block is Main Street, the corner referenced above.
All addresses have two directional coordinates, such as 255 South 500 East, which would be located about 2.5 blocks south of South Temple and five blocks east of Main Street. More information about navigating Utah's streets may be found at Utah Rails.
The Hilton is in the free-fare zone for TRAX (light rail). The closest station is Gallivan Center, located one block east of the Hilton. From this stop, the Blue Line runs north to City Creek Center and Family History Library; the Red Line runs east to OfficeMax and the University of Utah; and the Green Line runs west to Red Iguana restaurant and the airport. Times to the next train are posted electronically. Full schedules are available online at rideUTA.com. Travel outside the free fare zone requires a fee.
All SLIG Hilton guests receive complimentary self-parking in the underground parking garage; please notify the front desk that you have a vehicle so your hotel key can be coded for this purpose. Non-guests may park for $6.00 per day (does not include in/out privileges) with a validation which may be obtained at the SLIG Support Desk. Valet parking is available at the current hotel valet parking rate (no SLIG discounts are available). Oversized vehicles will not fit in the parking garage; please note signage at the entrance for height limitations.
Parking Around Town:
Parking near the Family History Library is limited. We recommend you take the SLIG shuttle if at all possible (see schedule below). There are parking meters directly in front of the library with a two-hour maximum, a parking lot on the northwest corner of North Temple and West Temple (1/2 block from the FHL), and public parking in City Creek underground parking garage and some nearby hotels. For those driving, also note that the parking lot behind the Church History Museum, located next to the Family History Library, is open free to the public after 4:30 pm on weekdays, as well as on weekends and holidays.
If you wish to venture out for dinner or sightseeing, please refer to Parking SLC for detailed parking information, maps, and apps.
Walk or Ride?
The Family History Library (FHL) is a three-block (3/8-mile) walk directly north of the hotel on West Temple. During good weather and when the sidewalks are clear, it is a pleasant walk with a slight uphill grade. During inclement weather, or if there is an inversion layer present, we recommend you take the shuttle for your safety.
SLIG Shuttle Schedule
The SLIG Shuttle schedule will be posted just prior to the event.
